spoken back differently; the margins notice how long you have been still; a fractal
runs in the space beside the print. Each domain gets its own edition at

What is real and what is not. The essays are written. They are stories, and
the people in them are invented. The facts those stories turn on are real and
checkable: the Kansas Cold Weather Rule tracking the forecast rather than the season,
net migration being a subtraction that records nothing while a town turns over,
observation status not counting as admission, a burial ground outliving the
congregation that owed it. Each paper carries its sources in the footnotes.
The wire is real. Every item in the miscellany that was carried in names the
feed that carried it, and those arrive at runtime from the same domain feeds this
site reads. The photographs are stock and say so in their captions.
The paper prints in one ink. The only thing on it allowed colour is the mark.
