Why is your Puget Sound Energy bill so high?

If you're a Puget Sound Energy customer in Washington watching your electric bill climb, you're not alone — and the honest answer is almost always a mix of three things: how much electricity you used, the rate and fees Puget Sound Energy charges, and the weather. The useful question isn't "is it high" — it's which of those is actually driving it, because the fix is different for each.

The most common reasons Puget Sound Energy bills go up

• Rate & fee increases. Puget Sound Energy periodically files rate cases and adds riders (fuel, grid, storm recovery). Your effective rate — total bill ÷ kWh — can rise even when you use the same power. The Bill X-Ray shows your ¢/kWh trend.
